How it started

I grew up in my parents’ stores. From the time I could see over the counter I was restocking shelves, ringing up customers, and learning what it meant to run a real business. My dad was back in the smoke shop business by the time I started high school, and that world — the glass, the culture, the community — became part of who I am.

After graduating from Cal State Fullerton I moved to Los Angeles and built a career in finance. But the entrepreneur in me never switched off. Around 2017 my dad started asking me the same question every weekend when I’d drive home to Riverside: “Can we sell this stuff online?” So I built us an eBay store.

It grew faster than either of us expected. Between 2018 and 2020 we became one of the biggest glass sellers on eBay. But I wanted to build something bigger than a marketplace listing — I wanted to build a real brand with real values. That’s when Stoned Genie was born.

Why we built this

If you’ve ever walked into a smoke shop and walked out frustrated — overcharged, underwhelmed, or talked to by someone who clearly had no idea what they were selling — you understand exactly why Stoned Genie exists.

Most smoke shops mark up their glass two or three times over. The selection is limited to whatever fits in the display case. And the owner? Often can’t explain the difference between a bubbler and a straight tube. I wanted to fix that.

Stoned Genie is built on three things: unbeatable prices, a massive selection, and genuine product knowledge from people who love this space. I work directly with our factory partners on every product we carry — from our bubblers and cool bongs to our dab rigs under $50 — testing them, refining them, making sure we can offer them at a price that doesn’t make you wince.

A family business, reimagined

The part of this story I’m most proud of has nothing to do with sales numbers. My parents spent my entire childhood working seven days a week, 10am to 9pm, in retail stores that demanded everything from them. Building Stoned Genie into a fully online business meant that in 2021 we were able to sell our brick-and-mortar smoke shop and go completely online.
